Stay Cool This Summer!
Stay Cool This Summer!

It’s 102° in the shade, your AC is blasting like it’s trying to chill the whole state of Oklahoma, the fan is on full blast, your ice maker’s working overtime, and someone just plugged in the blender for smoothie round two. Then… click—everything goes dark.

Congratulations! You’ve just tripped your circuit breaker... Again. 😬

Welcome to the dog days of summer, where we use more electricity than ever and our poor breakers just can’t keep up. But don’t worry—Ace Electric is here with some cool-headed advice to keep your home running smooth (and frosty)!

 So… What’s a Circuit Overload, Anyway?

Imagine your electrical system like a busy four-lane highway. Everything’s moving fine… until suddenly, you try to add a parade, a monster truck rally, and a marching band all at once. That’s your summer electric load.

A circuit overload happens when too many devices or appliances are pulling power from the same circuit. A circuit is the path electricity travels: if the path is clear = ⚡ ZOOM! Everything works. If the path is blocked or overloaded = 💥 Uh-oh! Breaker trips or lights go out. Your breaker trips to protect your home from overheating wires, potential sparks, and even fires. Think of it as your home’s way of saying, “Chill out!”

 Top Offenders During a Heatwave

  • Air conditioners (biggest power hogs on the block)

  • Ceiling fans (especially in every room)

  • Refrigerators & ice machines

  • Microwaves & blenders (hello, frozen treats!)

  • Washers, dryers, and dishwashers

  • And—believe it or not—extra chargers, lights, and entertainment systems

When all these are on at the same time, your circuit might raise the white flag.

Ace Electric’s Pro Tips to Beat the Heat (Without Blowing a Fuse)

1. Spread the Load- Don’t plug every appliance into the same outlet (or even the same room). Use different circuits when possible. For example, move that fancy fan to a bedroom outlet instead of the already-stressed living room circuit.

2. Stagger Appliance Use- Avoid running the washer, dryer, and oven all at once. Wash your beach towels after dinner. Run the dishwasher overnight. And maybe hold off on baking that pie during peak sun hours. Your house—and your breaker—will thank you.

3. Know When to Upgrade- If your breaker is tripping often, it could be a sign your electrical panel is outdated or overloaded. If your panel is older than your favorite beach towel, it might be time for an upgrade. And good news—we know a guy (spoiler alert: it's Ace Electric).

🧊 Keep Cool Without Losing Power

Your summer should be filled with ice-cold drinks, not hot messes in your breaker box. Electrical overloads aren’t just annoying—they’re dangerous if ignored.

So before you plug in the margarita machine and start hosting dance parties under your disco light, give your circuit some space to breathe. And if things keep shutting down, give us a call.
